Introduction to Food and its meanings
One of the things poetry does for us is to springboard us from any particular experience, event or thing into a meaningfulness that startles us. A taste of what is common and universal to all of us, if we be open to it. Food, with its celebrations and appreciations, is exceptionally fraught with meaning because all life needs and hungers for it. Hunger for food and appreciating it connects us with the universe of life itself. These poems pause and consider just that.
